Easy Ways You Can Improve Indoor Air Quality

Easy Ways You Can Improve Indoor Air Quality

Feeling like you have to just put up with unhealthy indoor air quality (IAQ) in your Orange County, CA home is a thing of the past. Associated Heating & Air can offer multiple accessories to help. We’ll get into those a bit later. First, let’s make sure you are doing the easy things to improve your IAQ:

  1. Ventilation:

Airflow is necessary to remove stagnant air and bring in fresh air. The easy way is to open doors and windows but it’s not always practical because of weather conditions. Additionally, when our outside air quality is poor, that solution really isn’t an option.

  1. Heating & A/C system clean

Your HVAC systems can help improve indoor air quality, but you must do your part by replacing or cleaning your filters. The filter is what removes particles from the air.

  1. Launder bedding & clothes

You don’t need to have a Howard Hughes-like phobia about this, but dust mites can linger on your clothes, bedding, and curtains. Cleaning them often will help. The mites can cause an allergic reaction irritating your nose and throat.

  1. Beeswax candles

Things like dust, dirt, and pollen carry a positive charge. Lighted beeswax candles give off negative ions and can “suck” in the particles or cause them to fall to the floor. Just remember, always be extremely careful with burning candles in your home.

  1. Salt lamps

Have you heard about these? A small light bulb is put inside a chunk of Himalayan salt. When the lamp is on the reaction with the salt also emits negative ions. Some with asthma swear the lamps help reduce their symptoms. It’s worth a try, right?

The danger is real

Scientific studies routinely show poor indoor air quality is a major public health concern. In other words, the risk is there even if you are not having any symptoms. Most of us spend 90% of our time indoors. Among those who spend the most time inside are the very young, elderly, and those with existing health problems. They are most susceptible to the health risks posed by indoor pollution.

The commonsense items we mentioned are great, but in many cases, it’s just not effective enough. Associated Heating & Air features some of the top air quality products in the industry:
